Meet Irene
Dr. Su is an Associate Professor of Reproductive Medicine in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Diego. She is a reproductive endocrinologist and epidemiologist focused on improving reproductive health in young cancer survivors.
She completed her undergraduate degrees at Stanford University, medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, residency in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Pennsylvania. She also obtained a Master's of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Clinically, she directs the fertility preservation program at UC San Diego, where she and her colleagues support women's health needs in young cancer patients across the cancer continuum, from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship.
She conducts patient oriented research in three primary areas: measuring ovarian function, developing research tools for engaging young cancer survivors in research, and intervening on reproductive health issues. She is currently conducting an NIH-funded cohort study to measure the reproductive window after cancer. In addition, she is conducting a randomized controlled trial to test the efficacy of a web-based reproductive health survivorship care plan for young breast cancer survivors. For these studies, Dr. Su has had the great fortune of partnering with advocacy groups including YSC from idea conception to study implementation.
