Meet Carletta
In 2013, at the age of 41, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer. Since my treatment and diagnosis, I’ve been on a mission to “Keep it Moving.” It's become the lifeline that helps me to continue to live each day ON and WITH purpose. Since my initial diagnosis and treatment, I've set out to inspire others by living an adventurous life. As a result, I’ve finished triathlons, multi-sport adventures and 30-mile breast cancer walks. I've used each of these defining moments to encourage newly diagnosed women that the day will come when the day becomes a bit brighter, the body a little stronger and the mind a tad bit sharper.
While it’s certainly not a sisterhood I might have chosen, I recognized that I've been given an opportunity to have a platform from which to raise and build awareness. I take it very seriously. I've shared my story many times over. I know that I'm not alone. Being an advocate means that I'm speaking up for my sister who shares my story but is not yet prepared to tell her own. Being an advocate means that I'm passionately seeking answers to questions about what the future holds for the next generation. Being an advocate means that I inspire and motivate others to live beyond a diagnosis with my story bearing witness that they, too, can do the same. Being an advocate means that I'm ready to hold the hand of someone who needs it. Being an advocate means that I'm passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. I want to do more good in the world. I'm not finished yet. I hold the banner proudly for women who have fought, will fight and are fighting. I am thankful for an opportunity to serve.
