Katie Diagnosed at age 23
My husband found a lump on my right breast only 3 months after we got married. Less than a week after finding the lump, I got the cancer diagnosis- stage 2a invasive mucinous carcinoma. I have no family history of cancer and tested negative for BRCA and TP53.
It felt like I was the only one having to endure something like this, especially at my age. My husband was my biggest support, he was my strength and my sanity when I had none. I had days where I wanted to crawl into a hole of self-pity and depression. But instead, I have decided to go big with my survivorship! I choose to feel lucky - I made it through chemo and defeated my cancer.
I never thought I would be going through cancer treatment at 23, but since I did, I want to support other women going through the same thing. I am so thankful for all the wonderful people who kept a smile on my face throughout my treatment! I took note of their encouraging words and positivity so I can use it to help others in a similar situation.
Are you a survivor, spouse, friend, or caretaker with a story to tell? We'd love to hear from you.
