Divina Diagnosed at age 31
I was 31 when I was told I had breast cancer in 2012. I knew it was coming because I learned in 2007 that I was BRCAI positive. My mother was 32 when she learned she had breast cancer. My great grandmother died at 34 from breast cancer.
I already knew I would have a double mastectomy. I chose not to have reconstruction. I thought I would have tp have surgery and do chemo, radiation, and that would be it. I thought I would be like my mom and her sisters. I'm not. I at first was told I was borderline hERS+, so I did Herceptin for a year. In 2014, my doctor felt a lump in my neck. It was breast cancer.
It had spread to the lymph nodes in my neck and right outside my lungs. I would go through chemo again and learn I was no longer borderline hERS+, but triple negative. In August of 2015, I would learn my sister has ovarian cancer. I told my doctor I wanted my ovaries removed. She said we should do a PET Scan. The PET came back positive. I have had active cancer ever since. I have tried various chemotherapy, and I'm currently on Taxotere and Carboplatin.
