Andrea Diagnosed at age 36
I was diagnosed with breast cancer the day after Christmas 2018, at the age of 36. I was so shocked and upset. I spent the next month in a pretty dark place and I was very overwhelmed by all of the choices a woman has to make once they receive this diagnosis.
Luckily we caught the cancer early. A cyst in my breast prompted me to go and get a mammogram. I call it my life-saving cyst since it led the doctors to finding the tumor. I actually ended up having two tumors in my breast. I had a uni-lateral mastectomy on January 30th 2019. Now I am on hormonal treatment for my cancer. Luckily I did not need chemo or radiation, but I really feel for the women that do.
Right now I am struggling to find people my age who understand the hormonal therapy and what I am going through! Most women I have met in support groups are much older than I am, so it's hard for them to completely understand how tough it can be to get this diagnosis at a young age!
