These are extraordinary times we’re all experiencing. Worrying about resources, access, employment and, in the realm of cancer, treatment, protocol, survivorship and struggling to have a little faith. Two of the biggest issues we keep hearing about are anxiety and fear. This seems completely normal to us. But there are also many things we can do to alleviate some of the discomfort.

COVID-19 has shown up like a wild and uninvited party crasher. It is a big trigger for many. From the newly diagnosed to those who are longer-term survivors, we've been learning from you. And we know that it feels like the trauma of cancer has returned.

Along with Lacuna Loft, YSC is starting weekly online journaling sessions to provide techniques to address the big trigger of COVID-19. You are welcome to drop in once or come as often as you like. The sessions will take place each Friday beginning April 16th through at least the end of May. They meet for half an hour at 12PM ET | 11AM CT | 9AM PT. Register here and stay up to date with our Facebook event page.

Don’t worry if you’re not really a journaler. Evidence-based research shows that journaling is good for your health. It boosts your immunity and helps to manage stress. We’ll walk you through the journaling practice and create a space that is both relaxing and productive.

These techniques will be short, concrete and time-contained. Jean Rowe, certified journal therapist, and Mallory Casperson, seasoned facilitator of many writing programs, will facilitate.

The main thing is, we hope, that these journal techniques will help us all feel more grounded, remind us that this too shall pass and provide a little faith in a time that feels unpredictable and scary.
